Aterian is hardly a household name like many of the other companies that offer shareholder rewards, but odds are that you own something that was manufactured or sold by one of their thousands of brands. The household goods company owns many of the brands that are popular in retailers such as Amazon and Aldi's. From kitchen gadgets made by Mueller to irons made by PurSteam, the company is responsible for thousands of consumer home goods products.
How to Qualify for the Shareholder Perks
In order to qualify, you must own 100 shares of Aterian stock. Currently, there is no time limit on how long you have to own shares in order to qualify for the perks.
How Can I Sign Up?
At https://www.aterian.io/perks you'll be able to register your e-mail address. This will allow you start receiving Friday e-mails with a weekly list of items that have been discounted for shareholders. In order to actually claim a discount, respond to an email with your name, and the Aterian investor relations office will send you a one-time discount code to use. Be aware that they may or may not ask you for proof of ownership of your shares. However, even sending a screenshot of your brokerage statement is enough proof for them to send you a discount code.
Currently, it is possible to sign up for the weekly emails without sending proof of ownership, so it is possible to review the deals for a few weeks before deciding to commit to buying 100 shares.
What is Being Offered?
Aterian's brands include thousands of home goods. Over the past few weeks, deals have been offered on everything from collapsible laundry baskets to rotating composters. Typical discounts are anywhere from 30 to 60 percent off. Each week about four to seven items are offered, but be aware that the discount code must be claimed and used before the next round of items is offered.
Most items for sale have retail prices of between $25 to $75, but there are occasional deals on Aterian's home furnishings brands for items that cost several hundred dollars. You will be limited to buying only one of each product that is discounted, but you can buy multiple products in a single week. Be aware that you have to make your purchase through an Aterian website, and you will be responsible for the cost to ship the items.
Can I Share My Discount Code?
While the official policy is that only shareholders can receive a discount code, and each code is tailored to the individual, it does not appear as if there is any rule against giving the discount code to a friend who wants to make a purchase. It may just be easier to buy an item for a friend or family member and have them reimburse you rather than go through the hassle of sharing a code, however. Again, each code can only be used on one item; you can't buy multiples.
When Aterian's shareholder rewards program was introduced in late 2021, it was designed to help increase the value of the stock. While it appears to have little long-term effect on stock price, this is one of the most accessible and easy-to-use shareholder rewards available on the market. If you're in the market for home goods, it may be worth purchasing 100 shares and taking advantage of the discounts, but if you're waiting for a specific product, you may have to wait a long time for it to become available through the shareholder rewards program.
